ANAO IT systems auditor graduate stream

Ask questions, follow your curiosity and shape public sector accountability as you complete a graduate program that will help you grow, excel and lead.

As an IT systems auditor, you’ll use your knowledge of IT infrastructure to examine some of the biggest agencies in the Australian Government. Help assess the various IT systems that underpin the services that millions of Australians use, and the cybersecurity environments of government agencies that safekeep data.

You don’t need a degree in a technical field to work as an IT auditor — just an interest in technology, strong communication skills, and a growth mindset. You’ll learn on the job as you shadow senior colleagues and develop specific skills.

Your days might involve:

  • collaboratively planning different approaches to assess risks and test systems
  • engaging with internal and external stakeholders
  • liaising with audited agencies to understand their processes, conduct walkthroughs and gather evidence
  • assessing governance structures and IT controls in different IT systems, like separation of duties, password security and permissions
  • collating evidence to justify your analysis
  • completing work papers and documentation to capture results from testing.

The ANAO is an agile organisation that values mobility — so if you join the office as an IT systems auditor, you’ll still have opportunities to develop more generalist skills and work in different teams, throughout your grad year and beyond.

In particular, IT systems grads often work closely with our data analysts, and are given opportunities to develop those skills and work in that space post grad year.

Are you eager to be coached and mentored by highly skilled IT professionals? Do you want to work across a wide range of projects, and be exposed to a broad spectrum of systems from across the public service? Do you care about supporting accountability and transparency?  Then the ANAO is the place for you!

What you’ll get out of your graduate program
