Graduate Teacher Program - Deer Park North Primary School

Location Profile  

Deer Park North is located in the outer western suburbs of Melbourne and serves a culturally diverse community. It has an enrolment of around 300 students.

The school is organised into professional learning teams: Foundation, Year 1, Year 2, Years 3/4 and Years 5/6. The curriculum program focuses strongly on the development of literacy and numeracy skills. The Victorian Curriculum is taught through student centred units of inquiry. Learning Technologies are integrated into the classroom programs through use of use of laptops/iPads. 

High importance is placed on the provision of a calm and caring learning environment that promotes a strong sense of belonging. The school community is committed to its core values of being Respectful, Resilient, Empathetic and Your Best. These values are embedded in the life of the school and form the basis upon which our school culture is built. 

The DPN Community Hub, based at the school, has provided a focal point for our school community and support and assistance to families in connecting to a range of services.

Selection Criteria - Graduates

SC1    Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the capacity to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Demonstrated capacity to respond to student learning needs.

SC2    Demonstrated capacity to implement high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth. 

SC3    Demonstrated capacity to monitor and assess student learning. Demonstrated capacity to use data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.

SC4    Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support student learning, wellbeing and engagement.    

SC5    Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values. Demonstrated capacity to reflect upon practice and engage in professional learning to continually improve the quality of teaching.
