TEACHING AND LEARNING

In 2024, Gaayip-Yagila Primary School introduced an Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) approach to Mathematics. This approach is designed to enhance student learning outcomes through clear, focused, and effective instruction. EDI emphasises structured lessons that incorporate clear learning objectives, step-by-step teaching, and active student engagement.

In line with the Department of Education¿s phonics approach to Reading, we utilise Little Learners Love Literacy (LLLL) in our early years. Our reading approach for Years 3 to 6 continues building on foundation skills and focuses on teaching specific comprehension strategies nurturing early reading enthusiasm and confidence. We develop critical thinking and comprehension skills through diverse and engaging texts, fostering a lifelong love for reading and learning.

VISION

Gaayip-Yagila Primary School¿s commitment to excellence will empower students to become connected, engaged and collaborative learners. Students will participate in high quality teaching throughout every lesson, taking an active role in identifying their learning needs and co-constructing experiences aimed at their point of need. They will thrive academically, socially and emotionally and value diversity through showing respect for self, others and the community (locally and globally).
