Who you are

We're looking for curious, driven students studying actuarial exams, or enrolled in Actuarial / Risk / Statistics courses, who want to explore their career options in a global bank.

You'll thrive here if you have:

This placement is ideal if you want to strengthen your technical skills, build experience across real actuarial projects and see the impact actuarial decisions have across insurance and banking.

What you'll do

This off-cycle work placement gives you the chance to apply what you've learned in the classroom to real work that matters.

Across 25–35 weeks, you'll:

  • Work on live projects that shape HSBC's insurance pricing, valuations, modelling or reporting
  • Build real-world experience with actuarial tools, methodologies and data
  • Get hands-on exposure to how actuarial insights drive products, risk decisions and business outcomes
  • Develop professional skills through daily collaboration with experts across our businesses
  • Grow your confidence while working in a supportive, international environment

You'll be placed in one of the following teams:

  • Product Pricing: Custom pricing, policy servicing analysis, product implementation, and system enhancement.
  • Health Pricing: Product pricing, portfolio reviews, data analytics and price coding.
  • Local Valuation Reporting: Insurance contract liabilities valuation on Singapore Risk Based Capital (RBC) basis.
  • International Financial Reporting Standard 17 (IFRS17) Valuation Reporting: Insurance contract liabilities valuation on IFRS17 basis.
  • Par Fund & Universal Life Fund Management: Par Bonus and Universal Life Crediting Rate supportability monitoring and implementation. Experience analysis and monitoring.

What you'll learn

Throughout your placement, you'll be guided by experienced actuarial professionals who will help you build the technical foundation required for an actuarial career in the finance/insurance industry. You'll also join a global network where you can exchange knowledge and ideas with colleagues across different markets.

  • Problem-solving

Requirements:

  • Available to work full-time or on a work-study arrangement for 25 to 35 weeks commencing May 2026.
  • Be a year 2, 3 or 4 undergraduate students.
  • Be specialising in Actuarial Science, Risk or Statistics.
  • Be fluent in English.
  • Have the legal right to work in Singapore.
