The Graduate Network Operations Program offers the opportunity to play a direct role in managing and optimising the Western Australian road network, helping millions of people and tonnes of freight move safely and efficiently every day.

About the program

The Graduate Network Operations Program is a 2 year structured rotational program based primarily within the Network Operations Division.

Graduates are embedded within the Road Network Operations Centre in the Perth CBD, the nerve centre of Perth's road network. The centre is a world class traffic management facility that brings together industry leading technology, data and control systems to deliver safer and more predictable journeys, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Throughout the program, graduates gain hands on experience applying technical knowledge to real world problems, supported by a dedicated graduate team and structured development opportunities.

On successful completion of the program, graduates are offered permanent ongoing employment with Main Roads.

What you'll work on

As a Graduate Network Operations Officer, you will use advanced systems and data to monitor, analyse and optimise the road network in real time.

Depending on your rotations, your experience may include:

• Traffic Operations & Network Optimisation
  Managing traffic signals, intelligent transport systems and smart freeway infrastructure to improve network performance.
• Traffic Engineering & Design
  Supporting technical reviews and advice for road and intersection designs, major infrastructure projects and place based initiatives such as the Town Teams Streets Alive Program.
• Data Analytics & Artificial Intelligence
  Using in‑house data platforms to identify performance, congestion and safety trends and support evidence based network improvements.
• Traffic Modelling & Visualisation
  Applying analytical and microsimulation tools to evaluate upgrades, test scenarios and visualise performance outcomes.

Your work will have a direct impact on people's everyday journeys and the future of transport across Western Australia.

Who should apply

• have completed, or will complete, a bachelor's degree in science or a relevant discipline
• are interested in traffic operations, network performance or transport systems

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must:

• be a recent university graduate within 2 years of completing your degree, or
• be completing your degree by July 2026 for the mid‑year intake, or
• be completing your degree by December 2026 for the 2027 intake
• be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
