The opportunity

Charter Hall’s 2026 Internship Program offers a structured, hands‑on experience designed to build capability, confidence and long‑term career pathways in commercial property and funds management.

As a Retail Intern, you will gain rotational exposure across the full retail asset lifecycle, from on‑site centre operations and property management through to leasing, lease administration, compliance and reporting. You will work closely with centre teams and head office functions, building practical insight into how retail assets operate in a live, customer‑facing environment where day‑to‑day decisions directly influence performance and outcomes.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Support day‑to‑day centre operations, assisting with inspections, presentation standards, maintenance coordination, incident reporting and operational documentation.
  • Assist with analysis and reporting on retail asset performance, including occupancy, leasing activity, sales trends and customer metrics.
  • Support lease administration activities, including maintaining lease data, tracking critical dates, assisting with sales reporting and preparing draft correspondence under supervision.
  • Gain exposure to retail leasing by supporting vacancy schedules, tenancy mix updates, leasing packs and market research, and shadowing Leasing Executives during centre inspections and tenant meetings.
  • Assist with compliance activities, including understanding Retail Leases Act requirements, disclosure obligations and internal compliance checks.
  • Contribute to projects and ad hoc work across the Retail Division, including a supervised project that builds commercial insight into retail asset management end to end.

 

About you

You are interested in how assets operate in a live, customer‑facing environment and motivated to learn through hands‑on experience. You apply sound judgement, take accountability for the quality of your work and communicate clearly with others. You are comfortable working at pace, adapting as priorities shift and engaging with a range of stakeholders, including centre teams and tenant customers.

You will also be:

  • Australian or New Zealand citizen, or Australian Permanent Resident
  • Final‑year student, available to commence part‑time in July 2026
  • Studying Property, Commerce, Finance, Business related discipline
