Life & Culture

The ANAO upholds the Australian Public Service (APS) Values as set out in the Public Service Act 1999. The ANAO places particular focus on respect, integrity and excellence — values that align with the APS Values and address the unique aspects of the ANAO’s business and operating environment. The ANAO’s values guide the office in performing its role objectively, with impartiality, and in a manner that supports the Parliament.

Perks & Benefits

Work Life Balance

At the ANAO, we recognise and support staff to balance work and outside interests and commitments. We have a range of flexible working arrangements that can be tailored to suit both your personal needs and those of the ANAO.

Health & Wellbeing Programs

The ANAO offers a range of health- and wellbeing-oriented programs and activities to support our staff, including:

  • heart health checks
  • flu vaccinations
  • subsidised eye testing
  • 24/7 EAP support
  • workstation assessment and reasonable adjustment agreements, and
  • a year-round program of webinars and on-site training.

Training, Learning & Development

We want to help you develop in your career, so we'll support you in undertaking further study and training relevant to your work with us. There are often opportunities to travel around Australia in the course of your work and some of our people have also taken part in overseas secondment or exchange programs. We also offer a robust individual career development program to extend your skills, with full support for CA, CPA and CISA qualifications.

Social Activities

Through our social club, we offer several voluntary activities, including sporting events, trivia nights, wine tasting and happy hours. Other smaller branch/service group functions are held regularly to celebrate a key milestone, such as the tabling in the Parliament of a performance audit report, or completion of a financial statement audit cycle. These gatherings are designed to help you get to know your work colleagues in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Relocation

If you're relocating to Canberra, the ANAO will arrange and pay for your travel and removal of furniture and effects (if appropriate). We'll pay for you (and your dependants, as appropriate) in a serviced apartment for the first three weeks while you find long-term accommodation.
