Company Overview

Website: https://www.bhp.com/careers/graduate-student-programs

At BHP, our purpose is to bring people and resources together to build a better world. We have the resources. What we produce is essential to carbon reduction and the technologies essential to secure prosperity for generations to come.

But we need more good people. Not just anyone, but the best and brightest graduates and students from every field of academic and technical endeavour. Graduates from engineering, geoscience, technology, business, health science, environmental science, computer science, mechatronics and more. Graduates who will challenge us, as we will challenge them.

If you join us, the opportunities are endless; because you will not only help build a better world, you will help shape it. Someone has to do it. Why not you?

Application Process

  1. Online Application
    • The easiest way to apply for a role is to upload an updated copy of your resume.
    • Once you apply for a role, you will be able to see this in your candidate profile.
    • After you apply, our team will then start screening applications, reviewing each application manually. Depending upon the number of applications, this can take some time, so please be patient with us as we work through this.
  2. Online Assessment
    • You will receive an email inviting you to complete the testing.
    • Our video assessment and testing involves answering a number of online psychometric questions as well as filming yourself answering questions about your experience and motivations.
    • The best thing about this type of testing is you can do this on your terms and at a time and place that fits in with your commitments. It allows us to find out more about you and brings your resume to life
  3. Interview/Engagment Centre

Your interview may be in-person or virtually via phone or video device. Usually, this will be with the person you'll be reporting to. They may also bring along someone else from their team or a key stakeholder you'll be dealing with in the role. This is a great opportunity to get to know us better and to ask any questions you might have about the role, flexible work and their experience working for BHP.

Engagement centres are not just a great opportunity for us to get to know each other, but as these are done in larger groups, the experience also allows you to meet multiple BHP employees, some of whom you may end up working with.

Engagement centres can be done online or face-to-face and, as a minimum, you can expect the following:

    • A session overview, which is an opportunity to hear more information about BHP, the roles available and ask any questions you may have on the process or position you have applied for.
    • A face-to-face interview and a group activity which normally lasts 2-3 hours.
    • Online interview, usually you'll complete two interviews with different BHP employees who will ask you questions about your background as well as some scenario questions to help assess your suitability for the role.
  4. Pre-employment Checks

These may include: due diligence, background, criminal and reference checks, medical assessments (for select roles) and later on a qualification check.

  5. Your Offer of Employment
