Farah Rahman

Site Engineer
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Construction Engineering

What do you enjoy the most about working at Fulton Hogan?

I enjoy that my role is site based so I’m close to the action. The crews on the ground have lot of knowledge, and if you’re willing to learn they’re willing to teach. I also really enjoy that the work is done in a team. There is always support and you learn a lot from your site engineers, project engineers and managers.

What is the most interesting part of your role and why?

The most interesting part of my role is being able to deliver a project from start to finish and see everything I have planned come to life. Seeing the final result of a project you have been on since the beginning is a satisfying and rewarding feeling.

What was the biggest surprise for you when transitioning into a graduate engineer role?

I was expecting to be in the office most of the day planning out work and resourcing, but I was surprised at how site-based my role was. I would say I spent about 70% of my time on site doing a range of different things such as quality assurance, supervising the crew and monitoring what was happening.

Do you have any tips or advice for students looking to work at Fulton Hogan?

Get involved as much as you can! Being part of the graduate programme and having the ability to rotate through departments exposes you to a lot of people and different types of work. There is a lot to learn, and you should take every opportunity offered to you.

What got you interested in our graduate programme and working for Fulton Hogan?

I always enjoyed learning through seeing things physically happen, so I thought taking the contracting route seemed like the best fit for me. Seeing that there was a chance to rotate through the business piqued my interest as I knew this would be a great learning experience for me.
