We Asked Our Monash Uni Psych Grads About Hearth

Pictured: Taylah and Phuong are both Monash University Psychology graduates
working at Hearth

What is your current role, Taylah?
My current role is Client Outcomes Lead for the Metro non-housing region. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Psychology at Monash University in Clayton, I was employed casually as a Disability Support Worker with Hearth. I learnt valuable skills such as how to build rapport with people from diverse backgrounds, use active listening, and adjust communication styles to suit different communication abilities.

I became a permanent employee 18 months later and now manage a team of Relationship Managers who oversee relationships between our participants, their families, and our support workers.

What did you study at uni and what was your first role with Hearth?
I studied a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours at university. My first role at Hearth was as a Disability Support Worker.

What advice do you have for students considering casual support work with Hearth?
If you're a student looking for experience working with people in a related industry, I would recommend considering a casual Disability Support Worker role with Hearth.

It can provide you with practical knowledge and experience supporting a variety of individuals. It closely ties in with university studies, including comorbidities, mental health, and intellectual disabilities. It's a great way to get practical experience in a field where placements are uncommon.

What do you enjoy most about working for Hearth?
The thing I enjoy most about working for Hearth is seeing the real impact my role can have on people’s lives. It’s an incredibly rewarding role, and I get to connect with a wide variety of people while seeing positive change and growth.
