The culture at Clifford Chance stands out as a highlight of the firm. The people at CC come from diverse backgrounds and universities, with the common thread being that every person is kind, down-to-earth, supportive and collaborative. From my very first day, I felt as though I could approach any person in the firm and knew that they would welcome a chat. The teams are not hierarchical or siloed, meaning that you get exposure to a variety of work and also regularly get to work directly with partners.
The travel opportunities at Clifford Chance are truly unmatched. I have only been at the firm for one year and I have travelled to Singapore, Bangkok, and I am heading to London for a six-month secondment. Every graduate is given the opportunity to go on secondment, covered by the firm, as part of the grad program. Clifford Chance is highly supportive of juniors building their networks both internally and externally and will help you to make your career goals a reality.
At Clifford Chance you will get the benefit of four, six-month rotations (one of which is overseas!). This guarantees that you can try your preferred practice groups, but you also might be surprised by how much you enjoy the others! No matter what, the skills you learn, connections you make and experiences you have in each team will make you a better lawyer (and it is a lot of fun). Something that distinguishes Clifford Chance is that the practice groups work very closely together, you will never be in a position where you speak only to your immediate supervisors. For example, I am in Global Financial Markets at the moment but the deals also have Corporate aspects, so we are in frequent contact. Equally, the teams work seamlessly between Sydney and Perth, and throughout the international network. If any type of work is of particular interest, you can always speak to the team about allocating more of your time there.
