John Andreatidis

Bachelor of Business Major in Accountancy, Minor in Forensic Accounting

Why Moore Australia?

I initially choose Moore Australia because what the management and HR teams had to say during the interview process felt genuine. I stay because it was not just an initial feeling, but the people at Moore Australia truly are genuine.

What position do you hold now and what is your favourite thing about your role today?

I am in the unique position of working across multiple service lines and teams. I am an accountant in Business Advisory and I work with our agribusiness team, and an analyst in the Transfer Pricing team.

My favourite part of business advisory is increasing my knowledge and experience in tax and being an accountant. Working within the agribusiness sector, the unique set of challenges our clients face every day means I’m learning and improving the lives of our clients through our service.

Our team is spread across the city and regional offices and the connection between the locations allows me to travel for work, which I thoroughly enjoy. Transfer Pricing is a very unique service. It has it’s niche in the business landscape and in this role I am not an accountant but an analyst. I like that I learn something new every day and interact with clients from around the world like New Zealand, UK, USA and beyond.

What influence has the training provided by Moore had on your career?

During high school and university I did not know what job I wanted to do. Accountancy came out of a hat essentially and I was just going along with it. After my training and time at Moore Australia, accountancy is truly what I want to do. I enjoy calculating taxable income, reconciling GST and reading the federal budget. I could not have come to this decision without Moore, my mentor or my team.

Any advice for a potential new grad?

Be the person who says yes to every task, not the one who does not give it a go. This allows you to partake in a variety of tasks and meet new people – whether that be in colleagues, clients or other Moore Australia network members.

This also lets you figure out what work you do like and what you do not. You do not have to say yes to everything forever, but if you do to start and continue to mostly say yes to tasks, you might be the first person your manager thinks of.

What influence has training provided by Moore had on your career?

I started as a graduate at Moore and was provided with a mentor and 17 week induction program to support the start of my career. Having never worked at an accounting firm before, this training allowed me to become comfortable and confident in my day to day tasks.

Starting as a graduate can be daunting as you may not truly grasp what your role will require from you. Moore provided knowledge and skill checkpoints during those 17 weeks which displayed to me what business advisory entailed from the get go. After the 17 weeks, my managers and colleagues continued to support my growth by consistently providing opportunities where I could enhance my skills. The environment at Moore allows for graduates to progress quickly and within six months of me being with the firm, I  became very familiar and confident in my role and was even able to have client contact.

Favourite thing about your role today?

I am now an accountant in the business advisory team after completing the graduate program.

The favourite thing about my role is being able t  work in a supportive environment that understands both my personal and work needs. Work-life balance can be tricky especially starting full-time work for the first time.

At Moore, I have had chances to relax and get to know my colleagues by going to the social club events and playing in our netball team. I’ve also just started my CAANZ study and am able to balance study and work seamlessly with the study leave and consideration provided by the team at Moore.

Top tip for grads seeking a role with Moore?

My advice is to take on any jobs that are available to you – no matter how big they may seem, there is always someone to support you and lend a hand! Asking for help and working with others on tasks you may not understand expands your knowledge rapidly. I also believe that mistakes are inevitable so making a few and learning from them is essential to growth. It is also important to take on the smaller tasks and help out the team wherever you can.
