Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
We honour and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as having the oldest continuous living culture on earth. As a large Tasmanian business with a far-reaching geographical footprint we recognise the important role we can play in creating meaningful change and a better future for Aboriginal peoples in Tasmania.
Our vision for reconciliation is an Australia that honours and embraces Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and knowledge to help achieve a unified and equitable future. Development of TasWaterโs first RAP is a demonstration of our commitment to achieving that vision. Implementation of our RAP provides a roadmap that will guide our organisation to integrate reconciliation activity into our day-to-day practices, policies, and decision-making.
The focus of our first RAP (Reflect) is to build foundations that will be fundamental to delivering meaningful outcomes to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We see this RAP as an opportunity to listen, learn, develop, respectfully test and refine our organisational approach to reconciliation.
Our RAP serves as a vehicle for cultural visibility and demonstrates our genuine commitment to learning about and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities. Commitments made in our RAP will provide opportunities for our people to learn more about the histories, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and create a more informed, culturally safe and inclusive workplace. During this RAP period we will explore and trial various cultural learning opportunities with our people, with a view to these being rolled out across the organisation over the coming years.
