Internship - Propulsion Manufacturing - Fall 2024

The Programme

Firefly has year-round engineering focused internship opportunities for our locations in Texas 

Both current undergraduates and new graduates are encouraged to apply. 

As a Firefly Intern, you will support a growing, fast paced team that is moving the launch business into full rate production.

Ideal candidates will have a passion for advanced manufacturing. You will have the opportunity to gain experience developing novel solutions for challenging problems which you will be responsible for completing.  

These positions require high levels of creativity, flexibility, and collaboration. The ability to communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural group is an absolute must. 

Work with responsible engineers on tasks including but not limited to: 

  • Apply technical knowledge to innovate, design and develop processes, tooling, assembly fixtures and procedures.
  • Drive projects to improve cost and cycle times.
  • Research new manufacturing methods and production processes.
  • Identify waste and implement process improvement opportunities.
  • Development of fabrication tooling.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing Initiatives.
  • Develop and implement system support process and documentation.
  • Perform engineering analysis to determine root cause / corrective action on problem areas. 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Must be currently enrolled in either a BS or MS program (or a recent graduate) at an accredited four-year university or college.
  • Willing to work in a hands-on, constantly evolving environment.
  • Communicates effectively, verbally and written.
  • Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T and ASME standards.
  • Proficiency in design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) considerations.
  • Passion for Advanced Manufacturing technologies and applications.
  • Experience with CAD Software and 3D modeling.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Ability to use analysis to develop solutions to manufacturing problems. 

Desired:

Candidates should preferably have a focus in one of the following areas:

  • Demonstrated history of exposure to, or interest in, Aerospace propulsion and fluid systems.
  • Current Materials, Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace or Industrial Engineering degree programs.
  • Experience with Languages like Python and/or MATLAB.
