Hi Adam, tell us about your role at Deloitte and what it involves?

My role at Deloitte is a data and artificial intelligence analyst which involves solving complex client problems relating to data.

Recently I have worked across numerous data visualisation tools that can present data driven insights which can shape client’s future decision making through dashboards. Dashboards are a set of visuals which when combined can tell a clear and powerful story which is difficult when looking purely at data.

I have also been fortunate to strengthen my presentation skills, both slide design and verbal presentation skills which are crucial to success in consulting. The next skill I wish to add to tell an even more powerful story is applying Natural Language Processing to dashboards which can provide context to by presenting automated commentary on metrics through applying machine learning. 

What work have you been most excited about since starting with us?

There have been so many exciting moments in the one year I have worked at Deloitte.

My most exciting experience has been using Power Apps and Power BI which can not only rewrite to a source but also update dashboard visuals in real time. Our team integrated power apps to not only rewrite back to Power BI but also the original source.

Prior to using Power Apps, I had heard about the potential of the software and was extremely fortunate to understand how Power Apps can add to the value a dashboard offers. 

How has the graduate program supported you in launching your career?

The graduate program at Deloitte has assisted me in numerous ways in launching my career.

Deloitte is an amazing and unique organisation in the sense that the firm provides opportunities to work across a diverse array of industries which other firms cannot offer. In the one year I have worked at Deloitte, I have already been able to learn and strengthen technical and soft skills, make an impact across multiple projects and have developed client relationships across numerous industries.

The power of connections is the other key value Deloitte has provided me with. Deloitte is full of some of the brightest minds, each with different skill sets which when combined creates a diverse and powerful team. You never know where life will take you, but having a strong network is likely to come in handy throughout your career. I feel extremely honoured to work at an incredible company like Deloitte and strongly recommend the graduate program!

What does a typical day at Deloitte look like?

A typical day starts with developing a daily task list, listing all tasks that need to be completed and prioritising them in terms of importance.

The more important tasks I complete in the morning as I find myself to be most productive during this time.

I will then check and answer any emails and timebox my tasks for the day in my calendar, colour coding to distinguish between internal and client meetings and estimating how long a task will take to complete.

The rest of the day I will complete tasks and attend meetings.

Usually, I am in the Deloitte office as I prefer the human interaction and networking with new people. To track progress, I will tick off my list and before I head home, will plan my next day which helps to build momentum.

Hi Melissa, tell us about your role at Deloitte and what it involves?

As a graduate in the Brisbane Climate and Engineering Consulting Team, I  work closely with my team to help solve the complex business problems that our global clients face by enhancing their operations performance. 

It's exciting, challenging and scratches that part of my mind that keeps me engaged. For the past year I have been part of a team doing multi-tier supply analysis into a major auto original equipment manufacturer.

In that role, I have supported the development of innovative multi-tier risk sensing solutions and acted in an advisory capacity to explore the implications of various geo-political/economic shocks through the perspective of an automotive manufacturer

What work have you been most excited about since starting with us?

Working with a global automotive manufacturer has been a highlight during my grad experience. It has given me the opportunity to work on international issues such as supply exposure to the recent COVID-induced Shanghai lockdowns,  with subject matter experts in supply chain resilience, innovation, industrial re-design, and data analytics.

Being able to understand how the work that I do contributes to a much larger picture and witnessing the impact of my team's efforts on global decision-making is exciting. The chance to shape global supply decisions and support major clients in securing their supply chains has been a challenging and fulfilling introduction to the world of consulting.

How has the graduate program supported you in launching your career?

The Deloitte graduate program helped set me up for success from my very first day at Deloitte. The program provided a seamless transition from university life to the world of consulting. Consulting training, network opportunities and the continuous support from my team were all pivotal in making my transition successful.

Moving interstate was also a big step for me, and the graduate program allowed me to meet so many likeminded individuals from different educational disciplines and business units. The colleagues I met on day one, both from my graduate cohort and my business unit, have now turned into some of my dearest and closest of friends.

I know that the consulting fundamentals that I am learning through Deloitte not only help me in my career but in my day to day.  I have so many opportunities at Deloitte, it's hard to know where to start. 

What does a typical day at Deloitte look like?

Hi Caru, tell us about your role at Deloitte and what it involves?

My name is Caru, and I work in the Internal Marketing and Business Development team where I lead the activation of Telco, Media and Technology Marketing and Business Development Programs.

As part of this role, I plan our key marketing campaigns for the Telco, media and technology sectors, showcasing the capabilities Deloitte offer. 

What work have you been most excited about since starting with us?

I recently led the 22nd annual Deloitte Tech Fast 50 Awards program where I had the opportunity to connect directly with the most innovative technology startup founders in Australia!

It helped me realise the diverse and unique opportunity for small businesses in the Technology industry here in Australia, and makes me excited to see how Australia with further lead tech innovation globally. Honoured to be a part of this industry!  

What does a typical day at Deloitte look like?

A Typical day in the office is used to connect and build face-to-face connections with my marketing community. 

9-9:30: I check my calendar to make sure I have planned out key priorities for the day.

10:00-10:30: I head down to one of the fantastic café’s here in Melbourne with a colleague to catch up on work life and any upcoming projects we can collaborate on.

10:30-12:30: Join a few team meetings and project calls, some of which in person. 

12:30-13:00: I take a moment to move away from my screen and enjoy some lunch from our kitchen, starring out onto the Yarra River and the Port Phillip Bay. 

13:00-13:25: I walk down to the Yarra to get the step count up with a colleague. 

13:30-16:45: I enjoy some deep working and thinking time to complete key tasks. 

16:45: I head home to tend to my puppy, Millie 😊

Graduate Analyst in our Digital and Technology Risk team

Hi Sam, tell us about your role at Deloitte and what it involves?

I’m an Analyst with the Digital & Technology Risk team in Canberra.

We work with a variety of clients to provide confidence to adopt and embrace digital transformation and emerging technologies. Our capabilities are diverse, from a highly pragmatic approach to Cloud, AI and emerging technologies, to best practice program and project management. 

Personally, I work closely with federal government departments undergoing complex digital transitions to support uplift of their project and risk management capability.

I’ve implemented and maintained rigorous governance procedures and documentation to help manage their transformation journey, and collaborate daily with other Deloitte teams to do so successfully. Along the way I am constantly picking up skills and meeting new people, but nothing beats the sense of pride when you and your colleagues watch a transformation come to fruition.

What work have you been most excited about since starting with us?

My most recent engagement at the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has had plenty of opportunities for exciting and rewarding work. A highlight is certainly the monthly board meetings for their digital transformation program.

In the lead up to these meetings there is a lot to do, and key to making this successful is frequent communication with client executive and project managers to feed into status reports.

It’s always exciting to bring together the perspective of many different people, and summarise this information for a different audience. I’ve met some great people preparing for these and it’s awesome to see the positive impact these forums have on the program and its outcomes.  

How has the graduate program supported you in launching your career?

The grad program offers a fantastic stepping stone into an exciting career. I was supported from my first day to focus on the things I enjoy doing, and was presented with a wealth of opportunities.

Deloitte has access to a comprehensive array of training from soft skills to highlight technical areas, and I’ve been encouraged to take time to learn a new skill alongside my day-to-day work. I’ve also been supported in the pursuit of industry recognised certifications.

There is great opportunity to work alongside colleagues who mentor and coach you along the way. The connections you make, structured learning and on the job development make for a thoughtful and rewarding graduate program. 

What does a typical day at Deloitte look like?

I typically work from the client’s office, and each day starts with a morning stand-up meeting with my Deloitte colleagues. We discuss priorities for the day, work through any blockers to progress, and share successes. 

After that we’d break to catch up over a coffee before returning to our desks to get stuck in to some work. 

Now I have some desk time to prepare status reports, governance documentation or upkeep the project’s digital collaboration tools, all before Lunch!

Throughout the day I normally have informal catch-ups with the client to discuss work priorities and refocus our attention for upcoming deadlines.  

As the afternoon creeps in I might turn to some online learning for a change of pace. 

To finish off the day I make sure my emails are up to date and I’ve got a schedule of work to do the following day.
